About us
The Ministry of Culture and Internal Affairs (MOCIA) is the Ministry that interacts and serves the people of the Marshall Islands. The Ministry was established with the creation of the Republic of the Marshall Islands in 1979, and it has been previously known as the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Internal and Social Affairs, and the Ministry of Interior and Outer Islands Affairs. The different names reflect the large number of programs sponsored and organized by the Ministry over many decades until today. Through a cooperative agreement, the private Alele Museum and Public Library and the National Archives are also associated under the portfolio of MOCIA, as is the Cultural and Historical Preservation Office. The Ministry is staffed by approximately 60 public service employees, led by a Secretary, three Assistant Secretaries as the Executive Team, supported by a Senior Management Team.
